Message from our president

Bruce

La Sarenne Collection is not your usual vacation rental or travel company. We’re enthusiastic about the areas we serve and want to provide local tips on what to do and see, where to eat, and how to make your vacation memorable. We see ourselves as your local travel guide before and during your time with us. We also believe in sharing what other people recommend or tips or deals that have been brought to our attention.

We also feature some the finest fractional properties around the world because we know that many travelers are interested in joining a private residence club or purchasing a fractional property so they can enjoy visiting the same destination with their families again and again.

Finally, we offer our clients first-rate concierge services before, during and following their vacations, whether they are staying at a 4-star hotel, a private residence club or fractional residence. Feel free to email or call for more details.

Thanks,

Bruce Cuthbertson

Sandy

Sandy Salle is CEO and co-owner of Hills of Africa Travel; A native of Zimbabwe, Sandy was born and raised in southern Africa. She believes that the next best thing to living in Africa is sharing it with others.

I was brought up in one of the most beautiful places on earth, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is a small country located in southern Africa, next door to South Africa. As a young child, I was fortunate to travel to many places in the southern part of the continent and enjoyed every moment of it with my family. I am now, happily, an American citizen, but I do miss Africa. I miss the smell of the first rains, the taste of dirt as I step off the tiny airplane that has just landed on a dirt runway. I miss the beautiful sunsets, its magic, its people. So I figured, the next best thing to living in Africa is helping people plan their travel there.

In 2002, I joined Hills of Africa Travel as a partner/co-owner with my sister-in-law, Meredith Hill. (Guess what my maiden name is? Hill – together, we are the Hills of Africa). I am now able to share the magic of Africa with everyone I know. I love working with my clients on their itineraries and showing them how to have the most amazing and transformational journey of their lives.

Janice

Janice Nieder could be the love child of Indiana Jones and Julia Child. She was a specialty food consultant for 12 years in New York, with a client list that included Tavern on the Green, Dean & Deluca and Sign of the Dove.

After being bitten by the travel bug, her culinary adventures took her to over 80 countries, where she shared a smoked monkey dinner with a generous Shuar Indian family deep in the Amazon Jungle; helped Ethiopian tribal woman bake injera bread on hot stones in 108 degree heat; and crashed a wedding feast in Pakistan, where she was wined and dined by over 200 men — and no women.

Last year, she mistakenly bought camouflage clothes to participate in a week-long truffle hunting safari in Marche, Italy, never tiring of the decadently delicious fungi feasts. But her real passion is working with underdeveloped countries to protect their cultural identity by preserving their traditional foods and cooking methods. To this end, Janice has written numerous articles about her culinary discoveries, assisted local producers with bringing their products to market, and consulted with tourism and business leaders on developing and promoting local farmers markets, cooking classes, and culinary tours. Janice has received San Francisco's Community Leadership Award of Excellence for her on- going work as the Volunteer Coordinator for C.H.E.F.S. ( Conquering Homelessness Through Employment in Food Service) a program she helped develop that provides culinary and job skill training for the homeless. She is also a leading member of the San Francisco Professional Food Society, Bay Area Travel Writers, and Slow Food. To keep things in balance, Janice also enjoys writing about spas, soft-core adventure, the cultural scene, shopping, local crafts, markets, chef interviews, etc.
